  Restaurants

Executive Chef Ross Burtwell specializes in preparing the freshest seafood, Angus beef, wild game and ranch fare at The Cotton Gin A great place for lunch, has the freshest salad bar around and a homemade soup every day.  The lunch buffet has several choices, be sure to check out the catfish at noon on Fridays!

The Hill Top Cafe is famous for its Cajun and Greek specialties, fresh gulf seafood.  Johnny Nicholas is the priopirator, a former member of the Asleep At the Wheel band, he now plays the piano and harmonica and will sing a few to keep the evening lively.

The Navajo Grill is over 10-years old and is a Hill Country standard.  Great wine list and they have recently added a covered patio with a full bar that is really nice.  Not on the menu, but one of my favorites, instead of getting the vegetable of the day, ask if you can have the FLASH FRIED SPINACH, tell them I said to try it!

Enjoy the delicious culinary creations Chad Fry and Patti Vander Lyn at Rose Hill  Chad has trained in various kitchens for 14 years, and Patti is the breakfast chef and one of the owners.  This is located just south of Stonewall, a fabulous view overlooking the Pedernales River Valley.

Troisi's Italian Restaurant

Located north of town and just across the road from Enchanted Rock, this will be a unique dining experience.  Be sure to go to the second floor patio for some outstanding views of the Rock.  Charles Troisi has created a small village here that is loaded with surprises, I'll leave it at that because you would not believe me anyway!!!  Becky Troisi is the chef. You will leave well fed.

August E's - Texas size portions of fine, fresh and extraordinary gourmet cuisine.  Located about 5 miles east of town, this is in the old Rocky Hill School complex where I attended school for my first 7 years in one of the other buildings on the grounds.  A two room schoolhouse with grades 1 thru 8; country school at it's best!  They have a full bar, patio is an excellent place to have glass of wine and enjoy the views.

Bonterra is tucked away on a hilltop at the west end of town, chef Steve Howard will see to it that you leave stuffed.  Website coming soon, open for lunch and dinner, I suggest a reservation, call 830-997-2370, you will be glad you did!

Golf courses

Boot Ranch  A promising new course that I have had the privelege of playing recently, and in my opinion, the big city courses don't have a thing on this one.  Designed and owned by Hal Sutton, this is a private course and part of amenities the ranch features.  Homesites and club membership are available, we can help arrange a tour of the ranch, just let us know and we'll make the appointment.

Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course is a par72, 6,432-yard championship18 hole golf course with practice facilities.

Museums

The National Museum of the Pacific War
is the only institution in the continental United States dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific Theater battles of World War II.

Pioneer Museum

The Cowboys, the Native Americans, the Settlers, the Mountain Men and others who tamed the West...share their adventure through the rotating exhibits on display at the Museum of Western Art

Bed & Breakfast accommodations

Not all B&B's are alike, so if you are looking for a made from scratch breakfast served hot each morning plan a visit to the Chuckwagon Inn.

Aside from day spa and massage services, a favorite activity at Palo Alto Creek Farm Bed and Breakfast, a Fredericksburg TX Hotel, is sitting in the swing under an ancient grandfather, live Oak.

Runnymede Country Inn Bed and Breakfast is an elegant English-style country inn on ten acres just three miles from downtown Fredericksburg.

Real Estate Tips
Curb Appeal >Trees Improve Energy Efficiency

Mature trees add "curb appeal" to a property and can make a home more energy efficient. Planted at the edges of a building, a tree's broad canopy of leaves softens the hard lines of architecture and offers shade. Trees absorb light reflected from the roof and decrease the air temperature surrounding your home through evaporation of moisture.

The positioning of trees and shrubs around your home has a significant effect on how much you'll be paying to heat and cool your house each month. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, even one strategically placed tree can reduce your heating and cooling bill up to 25 percent. In general, deciduous trees planted on the south and west sides of the house keep the home cool during the summer and allow low-angle sun into the home during the winter. If you live on a windy hill or coastal bluff, planting evergreen trees or shrubs on the north and west sides of your structure will help protect your home from winter gusts and storms.

Consult your landscape designer for advice about your particular property.
